From Graham
You may have heard the First Minister announce today that Churches in Scotland will be able to open for public worship, with restrictions, from 15th July 2020. This is undoubtedly welcome news. This does not however mean that every church building in Scotland will be open for worship on Sunday 19th July. In our own context, we are now in our Summer worship schedule, ie in July our services would be held in Bonkle church and Coltness Memorial church in August. As you will see in the attached press release from the Church Of Scotland, there will be a limit of 50 people permitted to attend each service initially. Allowing for 2m distancing, neither of our buildings could accomodate that number of worshippers. Whilst our capacity may change should distancing measures be relaxed, in the short term this will pose a problem for us, and it may be that we continue to offer an online service as our main diet of worship, and aim to offer a physical service in church from Sunday 6th September. Above all, however, your safety and wellbeing is of the utmost importance to us. We would rather take the time to ensure we have everything in place to re-open safely, in compliance with the prevailing guidelines, than rush things and put anyone's life in danger. We long to see you in person just as much as you long to be in church.
